Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe may get Produced Ahead of Expectations
|   Tuesday, June 12, 2012
At the Geneva Motor Show few months ago, there was much talk of the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe Concept. It had a mid-mounted 1.75-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with a rear wheel drive system. It was announced during the Geneva Motor Show that Alfa Romeo was going ahead with the production of 4C Coupe, giving an estimated target of completion by the time of Detroit Motor Show a couple of years from now. But, there is news from the grapevine, as revealed by `Autocar', that the progress of 4C Coupe has been marked way faster than anticipated.
Alfa Romeo has mentioned that it may contemplate completing production of the car within a year from now.

Alfa Romeo is designing the 4C Coupe in such a way that it will represent the very essence of what a sports car should be. It is packing the car with brand values that signify a distinct Italian style and performance features that will focus on ultra safe driving pleasure.

When Alfa Romeo presented the 4C Coupe Concept at the Geneva Motor show, the car had lot of expensive carbon fiber in it. Much thought has gone into this after March and the variant that is going under production will have sheet-moulded composites making up the exterior panels so that the pricing can be much better than the Ferrari tags. The front as well as the rear frames of the car will be done with aluminium while the central tub of the car will still be using carbon. The finished production model will weigh close to two thousand pounds.

The car, for all purposes, is a small edition of the 8C Competizione super car. It has a wheel base of 2.1 meters. The engine gives an output of 200 horsepower. It is linked to a twin dry clutch assembly transmission which is known as `Alfa TCT'. The reduction in weight has contributed crucially towards performance akin to a sports car. The 4C Coupe will reach a top speed of two hundred and fifty kilometers per hour and will accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in just four and a half seconds.

Alfa Romeo has claimed that the suspension guarantees high agility and optimum road handling. This is perhaps the most fascinating Alfa Romeo to come out in a long time. Despite the changes in the material make up, the production car is going to look similar to the concept model. The interior is also going to be quite identical as the designers have worked to retain the central characteristics such as the instrument panel which resembles that of a motorcycle.

Alfa Romeo is planning to introduce the car in the United States of America by the end of next year. The car is estimated to cost around thirty five thousand British Pounds. The production run is budgeted for a lot of five thousand cars per year. The 4C Coupe may give the sagging Alfa Romeo brand a pep up when it is introduced in the United States with a total emphasis on sports type performance.
