Acura showcases the MDX Concept at the Detroit Auto Show
|   Thursday, February 14, 2013
There should be a new rule constituting vehicles with only unique properties to be tagged as Concept cars. For example the vehicles showcased by Honda or Nissan at the Detroit Auto Show this year were truly inspirational and could be classified as Concept vehicles. However, there were a host of other vehicles displayed at the event which did not deserve to be called Concept cars for the basic reason that their ideas were not conceptualizing or captivating by any means.

In the list of the top Concept cars unveiled, the Acura MDX Concept surely makes it to the top. This vehicle is a combination of modern technology and futuristic design concept that could take the automobile industry a few miles ahead if its time. Acura has found success after a struggling period and the company does not want to go through those days again.

The MDX Concept features a huge wheelbase and despite the fact that the vehicle should weigh a lot, it does not. In fact the torsion rigidity is also quite high and this means the metal tenacity calls for this vehicle to be included in the list of Concept vehicles at this year's event. It feels nice to witness the rise of Acura in the mainstream market and the car makers have been through a lot to attain the feat that they have today.

The vehicle has a host of minor points that need to be kept in mind such as the exterior styling, the use of materials for the chassis and body, the paint scheme and interior trim, overall ergonomics and basic aerodynamics which all combine together to create the perfect SUV. Even if the vehicle does not completely perform all that it preaches, Acura has given a good shot to designing the MDX perfectly and that is a commendable job in itself.

However, people are skeptical of the vehicle's success and they have termed the designing a Xerox from their present collection of vehicles. It is also doubtful whether this vehicle will be brought into production as no final commitments have been given by Acura. The MDX Prototype was also described as boring by people at the Detroit Auto Show where it is being showcased and the experts also vary in their opinion.

A final road test has not been conducted and the fuel cell technology used in the vehicle has not been proven. This could be a major reason for the difference in opinion at the moment. However no such commitments have been made either and as a result a question arises about Acura's seriousness about launching the vehicle at least in the near future.

Acura has redesigned the head lamps and that is not enough for some of the critics. They want more performance and better styling to attract the masses. They could be correct to a certain level, however the company has tried and they deserve credit for that. Acura could be headed off to the drawing board once again if the bosses consider a redesign, which is however unlikely.
