A Few of the Potential Concept Vehicles that Could Never Make It to Production
|   Saturday, March 30, 2013
Hundreds of new vehicles are showcased each year at different events and motor shows across the globe. However, just a few vehicles manage to actually make it into production. Most of these cars have what is needed to become successful in the market but were killed by some unexpected occurring. Super cars are not easy to build and a lot of money as well as engineering is needed to successfully design a super car.

However, not all super cars attain popularity and this is a part of any business.
Some concept super cars have the potential to be the game changer due to their low costs and high performance. Manufacturers design vehicles and test them on track and after the final reports are available, the administration considers its current market viability. If the vehicle is determined to be commercially viable at the moment the vehicle is sent to production, if not the plan is shelved for the moment.

Back in 2010 Pininfarina was given a project to develop a new concept vehicle using a Lancia Stratos. The Ferrari 430 Scuderia is used as a donor vehicle while the chassis was shortened while the vehicle is powered by a 532 BHP along with 332 ft lbs of torque displacing V8 engine. The vehicle has a curb weight of 2749 BHP and is expected to accelerate from 0 – 60 MPH in 2.5 seconds with a top speed of 200 MPH. After the prototype was launched, over 25 customers had lined up to book the vehicle. However, it never made it to production.

Potential electric super cars are also new in the world and the Audi R8 e-Tron was a far-fetched idea even a few years back. Audi has made some serious improvements in the field of electric hybrid power train development. However, the e-tron is far from production ready and there are no immediate plans to make this vehicle available to the public.

However, unlike the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive, Audi has plans to manufacture this vehicle in the future. Audi is not trying to hide facts regarding the future hybrid platforms and the e-Tron is set to be one of the most successful creations in the future. The latest hybrid offering from Audi at the moment is the R10 – featuring a diesel hybrid power train.

Jaguar's C – X75 was also a potential hybrid vehicle that could have been fairly successful in real world conditions. The vehicle was showcased back in 2010 and featured a twin turbo 1.6 liter engine along with an electric motor. The project was stopped midway and no confirmation or news have come from Jaguar regarding the C – X75 since.

Chrylser was working on an electric hybrid power train along with Daimler and the first concept vehicle to emerge out of the partnership was the 850 BHP powered V12 engine operated Me Four Twelve. The 6.0 liter engine was tuned by AMG and hence the vehicle was blessed with unprecedented power. Things were looking great until the manufacturers decided to call it off.
