6 Tips for passing your driving test
|   Thursday, September 25, 2014
Your driving test will probably be one of the most nerve-wracking, but important exams you'll ever take in your life. It's quite often the final hurdle to becoming an adult and owning a car, being able to drive and getting car insurance can provide independence and freedom from both parents and public transport.

But keeping cool, calm and collected on the day can be a huge challenge, especially when you consider the hours of lessons and cost involved in getting to this point.
Just one small mistake could spell the end of your driving dreams, and take you right back to square one.

However, there are a number of tried and tested tips and techniques to help make your driving test a little easier, and increase your chances of passing. Here are ten of the best:

1. Keep your cool
Having decided to take the plunge and sit your driving test you'll be keen to get mobile as quickly as possible. But rushing into it could be a huge mistake as you'll be unprepared and put yourself under undue pressure.

Taking time to ensure sure you get it right first time is a much better strategy than rushing headlong into the test when you're not ready.

2. Do your homework
Revision is the key to success. Driving practice shouldn't be limited to lessons and taking time to Read and understand the road rules for the state you live in will help you gain a better understanding of what's happening when you're driving.

3. Drive on all types of roads
Make sure your driving instructor doesn't limit your lessons to the area around the test centre – whilst sticking to your comfort zone might feel good at the time, your actual test is likely to involve several different roads and driving conditions and being able to confidently navigate them all is critical for success.

4. Practice makes perfect
There is no substitution for practice or driving experience and you should be using every single opportunity to get behind the wheel and practice your newfound skills.

Lessons cost an awful lot of money and the more you can practice with qualified parents or friends, the fewer paid lessons you'll need. In addition, being able to practice manoeuvres after you've been taught them will help to cement the skill.

5. Don't tell the world about it
Don't be tempted into telling the world and his wife about your driving test. Not only will this add lots of pressure, if you do fail having to repeat the story over and over again will do nothing for your mood or confidence.

Try to limit the number of people you tell to your parents and a couple of close friends only.

6. Don't panic
Keeping calm during the test itself could make the difference between a pass and a fail. A small amount of nerves on the day is understandable, and in fact may even help you. However, being too stressed could prove inhibitive and mean you don't drive your best on the day.

Try to drive as if it were a normal test and imagine the examiner is your usual instructor.
