3 Series Coupe And Convertible To Be Renamed As as 4 Series Models By BMW
|   Monday, December 10, 2012
The new 4 Series, previously the 3 Series Coupe takes the old approach and promises to enhance it, relying on its own personality and am emtirely different design from that of the 3 Series.
Besides the obvious aesthetic features, the Series 4 comes with new exterior sizes. According to the Bavarian manufacturer press release, the new coupe concept comes with a wheelbase of 2810 mm (that is 30 mm more than the current 3 Series). The front track is increased by 35 mm (to 1245 mm) along the back, which is now 80 millimeters larger (1593 mm).
The width of the model is also higher than that of the sedan, by 44 mm (1826 mm). Finally, the Series 4 Concept is longer (4641 mm) and comes with a lowered roofline (by 16 mm to 1362 mm).

On the outside, the concept is distinguished by the futuristic look of the front and rear bumper fitted with large air intakes, featuring aluminum or chrome rods.

To individualize the coupe, BMW has prepared a set of LED hexagonal lights, the same form located at the front bumper ornaments, as well as a unique paint job, dubbed Liquid Metal Silver.

The profile is overall dominated by strong lines, thanks to the large bosses and discreet vents, embedded in the front wings. Finally, the profile seems to mark the car as belonging to the coupe segment due to the C pillar leaning more towards the back.

The back of the model was also singled out with powerful L shaped LED lights, the ones which are now specific to other BMW models. The exterior package is completed by a set of 20-inch alloy wheels with a new design.

For the interior of the concept, BMW designers chose to seek the assistance of the Division of Individual customization. With their help, Series 4 manages to provide a driver-oriented dashboard with strong lines, simple and ergonomic features.

The lines on the dashboard and door trim inserts bear aluminum and precious wood. In the back seats, a special seating contour has been devised, a contour that divides the space in only two places. To further underscore the exclusive character, the Series 4 comes with leather ties, woven by hand and applied to the doors and center console and thresholds chestnut embossed and illuminated logo individual.

The coupe and convertible made up 15 percent (or about 14.000 units each) of the 3 Series' U.S. sales of 94.371 units last year. Throughout November, U.S. sales of the 3 Series have increased with 4 percent, to 88,857 units. U.S. sales of this series peaked at 142.490 in 2007.

BMW seems to follow the naming practices of rival Audi, which sells the A5 coupe and convertible just above the A4 sedan, and the A7 coupe placed above the A6 sedan. The A5 and A7 are priced considerably higher than the 4-door models.

Right now, pricing for the 2013 BMW 3 Series begins at 37.745 dollars for the sedan, and 39.595 dollars for the coupe, and 48.495 dollars for the convertible, shipping included. It remains to be seen how much the 4 Series models will cost.
