2018 Lexus LS Brings Safety Tech To a Whole New Level
|   Sunday, February 19, 2017
The ultimate generation 2018 Lexus LS has many things in store for the luxury car enthusiasts. Apart from a brand new, aggressive front end, which matches the curvaceous lines of the vehicle perfectly, this beauty will change the game in terms of safety technologies. In short terms, there's an innovative pre-crash auto-steering system, a head-up display with new functions and other surprises.

Probably one of the most surprising (and useful) upgrades in terms of security is regarding the steering system.
Unlike the current one, which brakes the car before a crash happens, the new one also steers the LS around the obstacle automatically to avoid collision. However, this is just one of the many incredible statements made by the chief engineer of LS, Toshio Asahi.

Of course, there's more to this innovative design, which was revealed during the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. For instance, the current auto-braking system of the Lexus vehicles is able to stop the car before an impact only at up to 37 mph. The new technology of the 2018 model benefits from additional measures which improve crash avoidance – especially when a pedestrian dashes into the street with no warning.

Toshio Asahi has been working on the new LS Lexus series for over 6 years. This complex process involved basically remaking the car from scratch in order to change multiple features while its core remains the same. Talk about being productive, huh?

Apparently, one of the main elements of focus is the performance, now assured by a 3.5-liter V-6 twin-turbo generating 415 hp. Even though the Lexus is well known for its speed features, this time, safety was just as important. As Asahi declared himself during the Detroit Auto Show, "In our advanced safety packaging system, we have three features that are world firsts." Now that's a truly brave statement!

The first unique feature is, of course, the Lexus Safety System along with its pre-crash braking system because, well, it's entirely built by the Lexus company. The second one represents the colour head-up display, which can project data on the windshield of the vehicle. Also, it's the largest one in the world.

The pedestrian sensor system is yet another impressive Lexus feature. The tech uses a stereo camera with millimeter-wave radar, which makes it perform much more accurately even during night time. Overall, it looks like Lexus has much in store not only for speed enthusiasts, but also for those who want some extra safety while driving.
