2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Will Be The Last Of Its Kind
|   Thursday, July 17, 2014
Mitsubishi has confirmed that the 2015 generation of the Lancer Evolution X will be the last for this model. Its successor is expected to arrive soon, the Japanese stating that they are not planning for a model with the same configuration, which means we will not see a turbocharged sedan with four-wheel drive.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X will be produced until July 2015, inform the Americans from Jalopnik citing a press release and a statement of the Japanese brand representatives.
Launched in 2007, the Lancer Evolution X is a niche market product with declining sales and Mitsubishi does not want to invest in the development of a successor to follow the same line.

In other words, Mitsubishi will not produce a Lancer Evo XI, nor a sedan that has a turbocharged gasoline engine and an optimized drive system for high performance.

The good news for those in love with the performance provided by Mitsubishi's know-how is that the brand will explore the possibilities for further future demand of performance models, but will focus on solutions which involve technologies in the field of electric vehicle.

The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X generation looks the same as the previous version of the model, but the United States market receives some extra equipment packages. At the same time, in some countries, Mitsubishi has already suspended sales of Lancer Evolution.

The Japanese company is going through a bad situation in terms of sales results, and is forced to give up such models, because maintenance of a car that brings losses in the range is costly in terms of logistics.

As regards for the future, some say that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X's successor will be named just "Evolution" and will receive an electric motor attached to the propulsion system consisting of four-wheel drive. Going on the path of hybridization, the Lancer's successor could provide more performance, reduced fuel consumption and a larger customer base. But nothing is certain for now.

However, the rumor market announces that the integration of a turbocharged 1.1 liter unit with four cylinders that will provide 230 hp is still a possibility.
MMNA PR manager Alex Fedorak told Autoblog that "Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is committed to introducing the 2015 model year Lancer Evolution in the US Production of North American-specification Lancer Evolution models for the 2015 model year will commence in July 2014."

All 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution models will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4, which delivers 291 hp at 6500 rpm and a torque figure of 406 Nm (300 lb-ft) at 3000 rpm.

A five-speed manual box equips the Evolution GSR, while the Evolution MR has a six-speed dual-clutch transmission with Normal, Sport, and S-Sport settings. The power is sent to all four wheels via Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel-drive system.

The S-AWC system boasts Active Stability Control (ASC), Active Yaw Control (AYC), Active Center Differential (ACD), as well as Sport Anti-lock Braking (ABS) plus three selectable traction settings (Snow, Gravel, Tarmac).
