2014 Range Rover Evoque - a Comprehensive Beast
|   Friday, December 27, 2013
Range Rover is working on a revised variant of its 2014 Evoque, although tweaked is a more appropriate word for this revision considering its only exterior changes include a new set of alloyed rims and additional Land Rover badges. The interior has seen some upgrades too although massive changes have been made under its hood. The six-speed ZF transmission system has been replaced by a much advanced nine speed automated transmission, tested earlier this year.

Ride comfort, refinement and performance upgrades have been made along with fuel efficiency and these are standard on both the 2.0 liter Sl4 turbo charged petrol engine and the SD4 turbo charged diesel engine. Land Rover has increased power displacement and we now get 237 BHP from its petrol variant. This is partly owing to the advanced four wheel drive train and new transmission system along with Range Rover's latest Active Driveline.

This works as an on demand network which kicks in once the vehicle is cruising over 22 MPH. An electronically controlled e-Diff also kicks in on the rear axles periodically. The Evoque's drive experience is altered remarkably and even though its last generation variant was a quick handler, this edition seems to have outdone the last. Various electronic signals are in place which enhances the general drive experience and gear shift indicators are one such example.

Even though the ZF transmission seems to have done the perfect job of displacing power as and when required, the latest nine-speed seems to have developed something which was already near perfect. At 2000 RPM you could be travelling around 50 MPH although the vehicle feels smooth and well adjusted. Range Rovers are known for their abrupt power to weight ratio which as a result makes them all terrain worthy.

Even as its pedal is floored, the 2014 Evoque has engine juice to supply in case of more. This vehicle feels lighter and faster than before even though not much weight has been shed. Land Rover plans on offering a stick transmission along with its automated variant although this will not make an official debut at the moment. Various drive modes helps the driver choose his terrain and this adjusts power displacement and suspension modes accordingly.

Land Rovers are meant for heading off road and the fact that this vehicle has its DNA is not surprising. People opting for this vehicle need to head off road in order to truly understand the potential of a Range Rover. It is perfect for cruising long distances although its dimensions make it difficult to park and commute in urban conditions. This is a capable machine and should be used on freeways.

Its 4 x 4 technology does not limit its handling parameters while advanced traction control and improved tires provide optimum grip even under slippery conditions. This vehicle is designed to tackle Europe's snowy and wet conditions along with harsh and hot desert climates and terrain. Jaguar Land Rover has moved a step in the positive direction with this vehicle and it should do well as sales start.
