2014 BMW 5 Series Full Specs Revealed
|   Saturday, May 25, 2013
For the following model year, 2014, the guys at BMW have already laid out the plan for the 5 Series. Clients will get more power, a new engine, a diesel obviously, and a few extra stuff in the cabin. The changes will affect the entire range, including the 5-Series Gran Turismo, ActiveHybrid 5 and the high-performance M5 models.
The new models will hit the showrooms this August and will be priced at around 50000 dollars and up.

As far as looks go, the changes are so subtle that most will actually miss them.
Unless you eat, sleep and drink BMW you will not see any visual modifications. But if you look at the grille, bumpers, and the designs of the tail-lights you might see something different. LED lights have now become available throughout the range and the side lights are now integrated with the mirrors.

Besides the M Sport package, the 5 Series will enjoy 2 more packages: Luxury Line and Modern Line trim. A few more visual treatments are included in them, like special visuals for the wheels and grille. Expect chrome or matte finishes on the grille or window frames. Plus they will offer customers the option of upgrading to the premium Nappa leather trim for no additional charge. The M Sport comes with the sports body kit and the traditional M cabin accessories.

Inside, the dash area has been reworked and now comes with a touchpad surface on the iDrive controller as well as some chrome trim placed close to the central display screen. A brand new rear seat entertainment system is also introduced for the first time. The storage spaces and cup holders found on the center console of the sedan now have increased capacity
The iDrive controller however is the star however. It features a standard navigation system plus a new touchpad surface. That is a great addition when entering navigation instructions by spelling the desired destination using finger movements. Voice command can be activated from the touchpad should the driver want to.

As far as power goes, fans will be glad to know the horse count has been upped on some sport models and that a new diesel engine has been added to the mix. The 528i and 535i develop 240 and 300 horsepower from their respective turbo 4- and 6-cylinder engines, while the turbo V8 in the 550i now delivers 445 horsepower, which is 45 horses more than the current model. The 0-60 mph gallop in this model should take just 4.5 seconds, being pretty close to the M5.

The 2014 BMW M5 still has 560 horsepower, but now it's now available with a Competition Package that ups output to a hefty 575 horsepower. It comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed M-DCT dual-clutch transmission. Meanwhile, all other models get an 8-speed automatic box as standard, but a 6-speed manual is also offered on specific models for no cost.

Lastly, the diesel engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six and will be debuting on the 535d sedan only. Estimated performance figures from this unit are 255 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque (available from just 1,500 revs).

A costing mode that disengages the engine from the rest of the drivetrain when coasting, as well as improved aerodynamics contribute to a slight increase in fuel savings.
