2013 Mercedes Benz GLK
|   Thursday, June 07, 2012
The 2013 Mercedes Benz GLK has been trimmed at AMG (Aufrecht, Melcher und Grossaspach) in Affatlerbach, Germany. The 2013 model GLK has its edges softened a bit while retaining the box like shape to share its look with the GL, the large SUV in the line up of Benz. It has been noted that the wagons of Mercedes can never be retired. Mercedes has attempted to retire its G-Wagen for many years but people are still keen on buying it. GL was meant to be the replacement for the G-Wagen but many people found it expensive.

The premier GLK had a box like sharp look and an interior which was simple. GLK is an off-road car which gives a sump guard with the grille and low intakes for air below the cluster of the lamps.

The GLK 250 BlueTec was taken out for a test drive from the suburbs of Geneva to La Clusaz in France. It gave a fuel consumption reading of 7.4 liters per hundred kilometers at an average speed of 140 km/h on the highway even though it was being driven uphill mostly in the French Alps.
This crossover car has got its first important update. There is a new front end that has large air dams and a dual bar grille. The head lights are now with the LED running lights to make it look up-to-date. The rear tail lights are huge and the under-plate is chromed.

Few changes have been done to the engine with the addition of twin-turbocharged 2.1-liter diesel unit for the GLK 250. This engine offers just enough output with 190 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
The GLK 350 series will have the M276 V-6 engine with 302 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The GLK 350 series that are going to be made available in Canada will have the 4Matic 4WD system.

The GLK edition of Mercedes Benz looks wholesome and more masculine than the BMW or Audi counterparts. GLK has got a typical Americanized look. Though the car has been made in Germany, it is definitely targeted for the United States market. The steering assembly of the new GLK has an assist system which is electro-mechanical rather than the hydraulic system as planned previously.

It has also got some important revisions with the inclusion of electronic features on safety that is found on the S-Class cars. It has been given a new dashboard that features air vents which are circular in shape and reminding us of the SL roadster. The shift lever is placed on the steering column to free up the space for storage in the central part of the console.

The interior has bits of polished walnut and leather. The details are perhaps less striking than the sedans but it still packs a typical Mercedes Benz touch. The gear shift has a seven-speed automatic box.

The GLK 350 4matic will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The top speed is one hundred and thirty miles per hour. The car features the Benz Eco stop/start system for good fuel economy in both city and outskirts driving conditions. Both GLK models will be available in the United States by the end of the summer.
