2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
|   Wednesday, June 27, 2012
The F-150 SVT Raptor will continue its life of servicing those off-roaders for another year at the very least. The vehicle has some serious thought put into it, as it uses the experience gained by competing in the Baja 1000 desert race series. The 2013 will take that recipe and refine it into something stellar, or so the theory goes.

Since this is an off-road vehicle, the biggest update is the availability of new beadlock wheels. They will surely help to improve the Raptor's performance in soft sand and other difficult conditions.
What is so special about this type of wheels? They secure the edges of a tire to the wheel between two surfaces so the tire has fewer chances of rolling off the rim if it's aired down to very low pressure. What's more, the process of moving from a conventional rid to beadlock is quite simple and easy to perform. All you have to do is unbolt the standard outer decorative ring, remove the tire from its regular position and then remount the tire in the lock-enabled position using a special kit. According to Ford, this is a premiere for the industry.

Wheels are extremely important, but that is not all there is to a car, and the Raptor has other new stuff to delight its customers with. Among them, a special feature is the inclusion of the latest version of Ford's SYNC interface system plus a 4.2 inch multifunction LCD screen for the MyFord connectivity feature. If that isn't enough, the whole thing can be upgraded to the setup used by MyFord Touch. In that case, an additional center stack touch screen measuring 8 inches with five-way controls mounted on the steering wheel will mark a presence. Other technological gizmos include a navigation system activated by voice, plus a rear-view camera. The headlights get blessed by HID tech.

Under the hood stands a 6.2 liter V8 engine rated at 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque. A 6 speed automatic transmission is fitted, while the AWD system uses electronic shift-on-the-fly capability for the transfer case, as well as a Torsen limited-slip differential. Other features include all-terrain tires internal triple-bypass FOX Racing Shox dampers and skid plates. An electronic Hill Descent Control system is also included.

Visually, the Raptor can be ordered painted in Ingot Silver Metallic, Race Red, Tuxedo Black Metallic, Oxford White, Blue Flame Metallic. 2013 will see a new color introduced, Terrain; this was inspired by desert camouflage. Furthermore, the Raptor will move on as either a two-door SuperCab or four-door SuperCrew model, just like before.

2013 will also be the year when Ford will bring back the F-150 Limited model. Luxury is the watchword for this model. Power comes exclusively from a 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 engine rated at 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, and carries with it many of premium features as standard ones: 22 inches of polished aluminum wheels, full-grain leather trim, aluminum and piano black accents, MyFord Touch, SYNC, and navigation technology suite. Only the SuperCrew four-door cab configuration will see this model.
