2012 Paris Motor Show - Maserati has grand plans
|   Wednesday, September 05, 2012
Maserati plans to unveil a new two door super car at the Paris Motor Show 2012 which is scheduled to start from September 14th till the 14th of October. The car is set to be a direct competition to Porsche's 911, and the Ferrari 458.

Sources from Maserati are believed to have spoken to people from Car Advise and Maserati sends strong signals regarding the product which is hard to ignore. Maserati have forwarded an electronic mail to all Maserati customers and the mail contains a teaser of the mystery model.

Maserati has already announced six models for the Paris Motor Show and the list has been obtained by Car Advise. All the six launches are world class masterpieces and have a strong build quality, high performance, are packed with luxury features and are high on the style file.

The on sale date has not been announced as of yet and this model could be launched as a concept. The car has a possibility of directly challenging the Gran Turismo coupe in the premium segment.

The concept car is set to revive the era of the Gran Sports with new aerodynamic body frame, carbon fiber body parts and a fiber glass spine. Aluminum has also been used generously and this reduces the overall weight of the car.

The car features a rear wheel drive, mid engine format and bears a strong resemblance to the Alfa Romeo 4C, the donor car. The concept is set to be powered by Maserati's 4.7 liter V8 based on the Gran Turismo platform. However, the Ferrari developed V6 twin turbo engine is Maserati's preferred engine at the moment.

Both Ferrari and Maserati are planning to introduce the twin turbo V6 on a mass production scale and this engine development had a lot of money riding on it. Hence, sales are an important issue with the constructors at the moment.

Maserati plans to combine the twin turbo V6, producing 330 kW to the dual clutch glove box in the next production vehicles and this will be the hot property for Maserati. The transmission system has also been borrowed from Ferrari and the quick transmission system is set to make gear shifting an easier job as well as enhance overall performance.

The car is set to measure around 1200 kg and hence acceleration should be a breeze. 0 – 60 mph is expected before the car crosses the 4 second mark and the car is set to reach top speeds of 205 mph.

This dual seated super sports car is Maserati's trump card to boost sales volume and the company plans to increase production by another 10,000 units at the least. Maserati also plans to launch an SUV by 2014 and this is a part of Maserati's gland plans for 2015.

The SUV was showcased in 2003 as the Maserati Kubang but the launch plans never took off. Maserati plans to finally get the project on track and the new car is set to be known as the Cinqueporte.
