2012 Paris International Motor Show - Fiat plans to unveil the panda 4x4 hatchback

Auto making giants Fiat is all set to unveil the new Panda 4 x 4 at the Paris International Motor Show and the company has high hopes pinned onto this gallant off roader. The car is mean, aggressive and the company claims, is a lot of fun to drive too.

The panda 4 x 4 is a five door ‘A' segment car and its dimensions are 368 x 167 x 160 cm (l/b/h). The front and rear tracks of the Panda 4 x 4 measures 141 x 140 cm and the car has a wheel base of 230 cm.

The car has a unique aerodynamic design and the frame work is of special significance as it is light weight but extremely tenacious. The build quality is beyond question and the chassis is made up of a lot of light weight materials like carbon fiber and aluminum.

The Panda 4 x 4 has two engine variants on offer and they are a 0.9 liter Twin Air Turbo producing 85 BHP and its older and more powerful sibling, the 1.3 liter Multi Jet diesel II engine producing 75 BHP.

The Twin Air Turbo engine is connected to a six speed transmission system with low range first gear shift which gives the car more power for uphill ignition, increased acceleration and more towing capacity. The Multi jet II features similar drive train features and this enables the cars to return more mileage for the fuel per gallon as well as reduced Co2 emission figures.

The car features four wheel drive technology and the torque on demand gear box consists of an electronic control unit and two duffs. The electronic control unit - better known as the ECU – controls traction and power to the wheels at all times.

The rear axle condition is also monitored and so is the road condition at every possibility. The car is an off roader and some of the advanced off road features are an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) and an Electronic Stability Unit (ESU).

The ELD comes in handy while moving on off road tracks as the ELD breaks the momentum by applying the brakes on the wheel which is slipping or the one which cannot grip at the moment. This is in case of moderate speeds. The ELD can also be applied manually at speeds less that 30 mph by pressing a button behind the gear shift lever.

The Panda 4 x 4, although an ardent off roader, still has the luxury and features of being used as a regular city car. The car all standard features such as the air conditioner with an advanced climate control, MP3 / radio device, electronically controlled mirrors and sun roof, remote controlled rear head rests, 15 inch alloyed rims and a central locking system with remote controllability.

The initial response to this car has been great so far and inquiries are pouring in on Fiat. The UK price and launch dates are awaited and customers can't wait to get their hands on this bubbly beast.
