2012 Paris Auto Show: The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover
|   Sunday, September 09, 2012
Later this month, at the 2012 Paris Auto Show, which will take place between 29 September and 14 October, the official presentation of the fourth generation Range Rover SUV will take place. Land Rover plans to put this new car in the showrooms by December 2012. For those interested, the code name for it is L405.

On the outside, it screams Land Rover. A lighter and stronger as well as more refined aluminum compact structure has been used, aiding the vehicle in losing as much as 926 lbs from the previous model's weight in a few trims.
For the US market, the V8 Range Rover arrives at 700 lbs under the model currently on the market, meaning it weighs in at 4,850 lbs. That is a significant save, and the natural effect will translate into better gas mileage and handling.

To top things off, new aluminum rear and front chassis architecture has been developed and coupled with a fully re-engineered 4 wheel air suspension system. According to Land Rover, the new system delivers flatter and more efficient cornering abilities, while giving off an intuitive and natural steering feel.

Although it has a weighs less, the new Range Rover has more space and comes with more luxury settings than the previous model did. For instance, passengers in the rear get an extra 4.7 inches of additional legroom, and if that isn't enough, know that a long wheelbase model is scheduled for launch.

Engine wise, we get 2 V8 engines will for the US: a naturally aspirated 5 liter V8 rated at 375 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque, and a supercharged version of the engine with 510 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque. Both of them will be mated with a ZF 8 speed automatic transmission.

The 0 to 60 mph times indicate an impressive 6.5 seconds and 5.1 seconds, respectively. The top speeds available for each version are 130 mph and 140 mph.

Luxury utilities can be found in the cabin of course. We have a sliding panoramic roof, a Meridian sound system available with up to 29 speakers, wood and brushed aluminum trim, 4 zone climate controls as well as a pair of LCD display screens. A display 12.3 inches large serves as the main information center, while infotainment and secondary functions are left in the care of a smaller 8-inch touchscreen unit.

Air suspension plus permanent 4 wheel drive are standard, and marking a first for Range Rover, it gets an adaptive suspension system that reduces the degree of body lean during cornering. Adjustable dampers, permitting drivers to choose from soft and firm settings, are also standard across the range.

Stopping power is courtesy of a set of large Brembo brakes, measuring 14.96 inches up front and 14.37 inches in the rear. These brake discs sleep within wheels going from 19 to 22 inches in diameter.
Safety features include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, plus a surround camera view as well as reverse cross traffic alert system.
Pricing and EPA mileage have yet to e announced, but they will no doubt surface as the December launching date draws nearer.
