Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este - BMW Brings The New Concept 8 Series
|   Wednesday, June 21, 2017
Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este is one of the most important and stylish car events in Europe.
The event also proves to be a special one for BMW who felt it was good to present the new Concept 8 Series. Based on an impressive design study, the concept is an avant-garde for the new BMW 8 Series Coupe, a model which it is expected to be released next year.

The BMW 8 Series is at the heart of the strategy, "Number One > Next", a strategy that the German manufacturer has adopted to significantly increase sales and revenue in the luxury class.
According to Harald Kruger, Chairman of the BMW Board, the new model is an irresistible mix of luxury, modernity and dynamics. With this new 8 Series, the Bavarians want to consolidate their leadership in the luxury segment and, on the other hand, set new standards in the luxury coupe segment.

The futuristic exterior is accentuated by aerodynamic shapes of the elongated silhouettes and the narrow side windows that do not have a central pillar, just like the first-generation 8 Series E31.

The long hood drops steeply toward the massive grille with reversed double air intakes and extremely narrow laser optical blocks.
The rear is short, being accentuated by a spoiler integrated in the luggage compartment cover, while the medial shape narrows in the middle, with the trapezoidal fins on the exhaust system being arranged at the base. The concept is completed by 21-inch chrome wheels, by the stylish rear lights, made to form the letter "L", while the body is painted in a special blue tint, Barcelona Gray Liquid.

Viewed from all angles, the BMW Concept 8 Series is perceived as a true GT (Gran Turismo) car with a dynamic silhouette with luxury on board. The styling and dynamism of the 8 Series is closer to the Lexus LC 500 than the German rival Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, which looks bigger and more opulent.

Inside, the concept has many tangents with the old 8 Series E31. The board is made in the same style, with the same console turned to the driver dropping fluid into the central tunnel, displaying the multimedia system repeating the vertical shape of the air intakes found on the old Series 8.

The highest quality level is immediately felt through the Merino leather, in Dark Brown and White Fjord colors. The modern and stylish finishing is complemented by carbon fiber surfaces. Also, the iDrive controller, made of Swarovsky glass, with smoky quartz appearance, stands out as you blink. The sporting character is highlighted by the presence of sports seats, the steering wheel and the faceted gearshift.

The German manufacturer believes that the figure "8" has always been the culmination of luxury in the Bavarian model range, so the new production model will be called the 8 Series. The latter will be available as a Coupe with two doors (G15) and convertible (G14). At the same time, the engines will include versions like 840d, 840i and 850i. There is a probability of launching a future BMW M8 with about 600 hp.
