Chinese Autonomous Electric Car Offensive: Seven Rivals For Tesla
|   Friday, December 11, 2015
From what we noticed in recent times electric cars are no longer a fad, but rather a necessity that increasingly more companies are trying to hedge. After vehicles like the Tesla Model S or BMW i8, on the market we see emerging a new producer with great thoughts regarding the electric models.

Faraday Future, a new player on the market of electric cars, plans an investment of 1 billion dollars in this segment. Farady Future is a mysterious company that comes with a rather suggestive name about the future of the automobile.
Although not many details are known, we find that Faraday Future is a California company that currently comprises many engineers who have worked in the past at BMW and even with Tesla Motors.

A Chinese billionaire will build a factory in the US where it will produce seven autonomous electric car models beginning in 2017 to rival Tesla. Right now, not much can be said about the company or Jia Yueting, the one behind all this. It may be, however, that in two years time we might frequently hear about both.

The plans are ambitious because many employees from Tesla were recruited, like Tesla's Model S production director, purchase director and human resources director.

Among them is Nick Sampson, former Tesla director, now Faraday's senior vice president of R&D, who said Faraday plans to bring its first electric car in about two years and will be quickly followed by several other models. "We will launch a single model and follow with a range of vehicles in a faster way than others have achieved," said Sampson. "We're looking at seven different vehicles."

Until the appearance of the first electric vehicle planned for 2017, Faraday Future is planning to invest an impressive amount of money in a factory that could be built in California, Nevada, Louisana, or Georgia.

The sum we are talking about amounts to 1 billion dollars, a sum that will enable the company to bring everything new in robots and equipment for automobile development, as well as to cover the costs of research. Also, Farady Future will not stay away from the concept of autonomous vehicles.
Future Faraday is the last of a group of investors from China to begin working on electric vehicles in the US. Along with Karma Automotive LLC and Atieva, Faraday Future started operations in the US in order to take advantage of American know-how.

"Producing our forward-looking and fully-connected electric vehicles not only requires the latest technology, but the right community partner," said Faraday SVP Nick Sampson. It is possible that municipal and state incentives will have an important role, in a similar fashion to Tesla's choice for Nevada to build the Gigafactory.

Prices for the new cars have not yet been established, but Faraday Future will provide additional features for a fee. Among them is the option that the car will drive autonomously, while connectivity will also have a fairly high price. In addition, the company will launch various smartphone applications for which customers will pay monthly subscriptions.
