Every car manufacturer has at some point been involved in the development of high powered sports cars, a jazzier version that gives those people who need to drive a sleek car that won’t cost them millions. Toyota is a well known car manufacturer that is widely known for its reliability more than speed and after years of industry’s advancements it has finally given in and launched a sleek jazzy coupé that will be known as the GT 86 in Europe, Just 86 and as Scion FR-S in the United states of America.
This new type of car does not deviate as much from the standard design features that Toyotas have except for the incorporation of some features that have been unique to the manufacture of SUBARU The GT 86 has a scoob-derived flat-four engine equipped with a 6 speed manual engine that puts out. Apparently as Toyota claims, it drives with an even weight-distribution of 53:47 front wheel-to-rear wheel ratio. The GT 86 was developed along with the SUBARU BRZ if you like drifting in a compact four-seater coupé.
At 4.2 meters long, 1.8 meters wide and 1.3 meters tall this could arguably be the smallest car that Toyota has ever produced. Not much has been said about the bells and whistles to be found in the interior except for the obligatory bucket seats that are iconic for most sports cars, buckskin trimmed steering wheels and an instrument console that is centrally mounted to make it easier for the driver to check, this could be the sports car for you.
But for a while now, only so much information has been leaked to the media and the pictures we get to see are near perfect you can’t help but wonder if what you see is really what the actual car will look like unless you are lucky enough to attend the Tokyo Motor show where all will be revealed.
The GT 86 has been hailed as the car that brings the joy back to driving, because of its weight, the ease with which you can maneuver it on a driving course and it’s road handling ability. Whether it’s an exceptional sports car to own is another matter but it s a big improvement on Toyota’s previous offerings like the MR2. Coupés are often thought to be money pits and little toys that boys get to play with once in a while. What the GT 86 is going to turn out to be is another matter. It could very well vanish into oblivion or prove to be Toyota’s serious entry into the sports car market.
Toyota also brought along their popular Prius to the Tokyo motor show as well as the FCV-R that uses hydrogen cells to cater for the “Going Green” message that they have been champions of for such a long time. As for Toyota’s new offering, the Fun-Vii, no one can be blamed for being confused about whether it was supposed to be a futuristic take on SmartCars or a giant phone on wheels.
