With the Geneva Motor Show fast approaching the big automakers are poised to reveal some details about models ready to be launched on this occasion. This time we get a more powerful version of the Skoda Octavia RS, which comes after the standard variant was already presented with 230 horsepower under the hood.
Therefore, the Czech manufacturer took into account the wishes of many fans who have expressed their desire over time for a more powerful model. Just weeks after we met the Octavia facelift, the manufacturer representatives showcase a slightly stronger model. The new 2017 Skoda Octavia RS 245 becomes the most powerful model so far developed by the European manufacturer.
The new Octavia RS 245 will be offered for sale in parallel with the classic RS, which offers 230 horsepower after the facelift. Available both as sedan (with rear tailgate variant) and station wagon version, the RS 245 uses the same TSI engine with a displacement of 2.0 l, which is found on the ordinary model with 230 hp, but was electronically changed to give an extra 15 hp of power and 20 Nm of torque (now set at 370 Nm). The engine is mated to a standard manual gearbox with six speeds, but may receive a DSG transmission with seven gears, which makes its debut in the Octavia range.
According to figures provided by Skoda Octavia RS 245 it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.6 seconds (6.7 for station wagons), therefore 0.
seconds faster than the RS “normal” version.
Skoda did not announce the official figures of fuel consumption for the Octavia RS 245, but we expect values close or even identical to those already published for the RS 230 hp version: 6.5 liters / 100 km.
If the differences of power and performance do not seem to justify a new release, Skoda offers us a list of technical changes that transform the new Octavia RS 245 into a really interesting version. If the aesthetic changes are obvious (the glossy black grille of the radiator, the black mirrors, the 17-inch rims and optical front and back blocks, covered with “crystal” glass as Skoda calls it), the hidden details, such as the ground clearance lowered by 1.4 centimeters, the wider rear track by 3.8 centimeters, the electronic differential with limited slip, VAQ, and distinctive sound provided by the package Performance Sound Generator are some standard features available on this release.
The sporty cockpit theme is continued in dark tones. The black material is covering the ceiling and floor and the pedals have aluminum inserts.
The sport seats are upholstered with Alcantara and stitched RS logos, these being found on the thresholds too.
Unfortunately, they did not published more pictures from the inside, but we are told that the multifunction sports steering wheel is clad in perforated leather and heated too, and after this it hides the paddles for changing gear, available only with the the DSG transmission trim.
Last but not least, an ambient surrounding light system is available, with 10 colors, which brings about a more dynamic atmosphere.
The official debut of the new version Octavia RS 245 will take place at the Geneva Motor Show in early March 2017.
