The new and powerful sports sedan has been tested at extreme temperatures. Tests on snow and ice have helped refine the chassis and powertrain. The engineers have worked to balance maneuverability and performance over long distances.
Kia Stinger was sent to the last stage of its development in the heart of the frozen Arctic winter to be ready for market launch, which will take place in the second half of 2017. After testing on the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany, engineers sent the new Kia sports sedan to northern Sweden for testing under extreme temperature and frost.
Engineers struggle to balance the expectations of drivers for a predictable gran turismo that is stable and maneuverable under all conditions, with the exciting character of a sports car sedan with rear-wheel drive. At the development center located in Arjeplog from Sweden, Kia tested the car on low-grip surfaces, including slalom tests in the frozen circuit on the lake Uddjaure.
This last phase of the testing program enabled Kia's development team to accurately adjust both the driveability of the rear-wheel drive car version and also in the version with four-wheel drive. At the same time many electronic support elements has offered for drivers.
At launch, Kia Stinger, will be the first sedan developed by Kia which will be available both in a rear-wheel drive and also in a four-wheel drive version.
The all-wheel drive system has been designed to provide optimum control in all conditions; the models equipped with the four-wheel drive are fitted with improved dynamic control of torque (Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control) which automatically applies power and braking force to the wheel which is required to maintain the optimum trajectory in hard cornering conditions or on low adhesion surfaces.
The Stinger GT model will have the option to switch on the electronic stability control system (ESC) and a traction control system - (TCS) in the “Sport” mode.
The new Stinger is probably the most ambitious model of the Kia, being very spectacular in its design.
Being based on a platform oriented toward rear-wheel drive, the new Stinger is offered with gasoline engines 2.0 Turbo (255 hp and 353 Nm) and 3.3 Twin Turbo (370 hp and 510 Nm), the latter being able to accelerate the top version, Stinger GT, from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds onto a top speed of 270 km / h. Quite impressive for a Kia model.
Optionally, all-wheel drive is available too. In addition to the gasoline engines mentioned above, the new Kia Stinger receives a diesel 2.2 CRDi that develops 200 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque, which is sufficient for accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 225 km / h.
The severe regime in winter conditions, to which the car was subjected will ensure durability at low temperatures of below -35 ° C, thus confirming the durability of every part of the vehicle in the most extreme conditions.
