The I-PACE concept is a completely different approach to the idea of electric vehicles. An exciting and futuristic design, it is a combination of Jaguar specific qualities, premium details, elegance and quality.
Profile-wise, the I-PACE has more in common with the C-X75 supercar with its central engine than with conventional SUVs. The advanced cab proportion, the dynamic line, the curvature of the front wings, robust appearance of the rear wheel passages and large sports rims highlight this thing. And yet, the overall dimensions of the I-PACE concept are no greater than those of an average SUV. The wheelbase with 2,990 mm creates generous interior with space for rear passengers, specifically for high-class SUVs and luxury sedans.
I-PACE concept presents the new Jaguar approach about an intuitive command interface, in an aircraft flight deck style. The design philosophy focuses on ergonomic placement of commands and technology, which require the driver's involvement.
The I-PACE concept provides the dynamic performance and response for which Jaguar is renowned. For this purpose, it is equipped with electric motors on the front and rear axles. They develop a power of 400 hp and 700 Nm of torque available instantly.
The four-wheel drive electric propulsion ensures perfect maneuverability on all surfaces and in all weather conditions. The answer is immediate, and the system provides exceptional control of torque distribution between front and rear, and quickly responds to driver commands, driving conditions and vehicle characteristics.
The Jaguar F-PACE sets the standard in its class in terms of balanced road behavior, handling and refinement and the I-PACE concept will do the same. The sophisticated design of the suspension, the advantages of a low center of gravity and incorporated experience gained in developing the F-TYPE and F-Pace models will clearly highlight the I-PACE concept over all other electric vehicles.
The front suspension has the same triangular configuration with two arms found on the F-type and F-PACE, as it has proven to be the most efficient system.
The independent rear suspension “Integral Link” on the I-PACE concept, which is found on models like the Jaguar XE, Jaguar XF and the F-PACE, was a good choice. Its complexity exceeds that of many multilink systems to provide incomparable balance driving experience, handling and refinement. The independent suspension allows the engineers responsible for the chassis to separately adjust longitudinal and lateral stiffness. This ensures freedom to optimize both comfort and dynamic behavior without any compromise.
The autonomy of the I-PACE concept is around 500 km, according to the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) standards. Taking into account a movement distance of 40 - 50 km daily, most customers will charge the car only once a week. The battery can be charged in special places or at home.
The battery uses “bag” cell types, which were selected for energy density, superior thermal performance due to low internal resistance, and for the design freedom which they allow. Unlike other forms of competing cells, they offer excellent potential for development, especially in terms of energy density - they provide greater range at the same size battery, or a similar range but with a smaller size and reduced weight.
The model is expected to be available in the second half of 2018.
